Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare anterior-chamber depth, white-to-white distance, anterior-chamber angle and pupil diameter, as measured with two different Scheimpflug imaging devices.
Setting:
University of Valencia, Spain
Methods:
Eighty right eyes from eighty subjects aged from 20 to 40 years were included in this study. Their spherical equivalent ranged from -4.25 to +1.00 diopters. Each eye's anterior-chamber depth, white-to-white distance, anterior-chamber angle and pupil diameter, were measured for far vision using both the Galilei G4 (double-Scheimpflug camera) and the Pentacam HR (single-Scheimpflug camera) systems.
Results:
Mean anterior chamber depth was 3.12±0.23mm using the Galilei G4 vs. 3.19±0.24mm using the Pentacam HR. Mean white-to-white distance was 11.84±0.31mm (Galilei G4) vs. 11.90±0.43mm (Pentacam HR). Mean pupil diameter was 3.22±0.58mm (Galilei G4) vs. 3.22±0.52mm (Pentacam HR). Finally, the mean anterior-chamber-angle was 34.30±2.86degrees (Galilei G4) vs. 39.26±2.85degrees (Pentacam HR). The device comparison revealed that the Galilei G4 yielded significantly lower (P<0.05) anterior chamber depth, anterior chamber angle and pupil diameter than the Pentacam HR system, whereas for white-to-white distance both devices yielded comparable values (P>0.05).
Conclusions:
The Galilei G4 and the Pentacam HR systems provide significantly different anterior chamber depth, anterior chamber angle and pupil diameter values. Moreover, to measure anterior-chamber depth, white-to-white distance, anterior-chamber angle and pupil diameter, they cannot be used interchangeably. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
