Changes in anterior chamber eye during accommodation measured with the Galilei G4 system

Purpose:

To study changes with accommodation in anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber angle (ACA) and pupil diameter (PD).

Setting:

University of Valencia, Spain

Methods:

Eighty eyes of eighty subjects aged from 22 to 30 years were included. The Galilei G4 system was used to measure changes in ACD, ACA and PD with accommodation. ACD was measured in central and 4 mm at nasal, superior, temporal and inferior direction. The ACA was measured at nasal, superior, temporal and inferior position; and the whole eye's mean ACA was also measured. All of these parameters were obtained for various accommodation stimuli, ranging from +1 D to -4 D in 1 D steps.

Results:

The ACD did not vary significantly with accommodation for a given position, being the relative change between far and near vision 4.11 %. Whole eye's mean ACA and nasal ACA did not decreased significantly with accommodation. However, it was reduced significantly at inferior, temporal and superior ACA. For ACD and ACA, the pairs superior-nasal values were significantly lower than temporal-inferior ones. The PD was also reduced significantly with accommodation within each position studied. The relative change after -4 D of accommodation was 8.13 %.

Conclusions:

Local ACA and PD vary significantly with accommodation. Considering peripheral positions, the nasal-superior sides were significant shallower than the temporal-inferior ones. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
