Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate epithelial thickness profile changes following myopic transepithelial surface ablation
Setting:
SynsLaser Clinic, Oslo, Norway
Methods:
Nineteen eyes of 19 patients were retrospectively recruited. Epithelial thickness mapping was obtained with a spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (Optovue Inc., Fremont, CA) preoperatively, as well as at 1 month and 3 months postoperatively. The central 2 mm area (Zc), the mean epithelial thickness between 2-5 mm zone (Z2-5), and between 5-6 mm zone (Z5-6) were analyzed.
Results:
Compared to preoperative values, the epithelial thickness remained the same at 1 month postoperatively (p>0.05). There was a thickening of 2.30±2.76, 3.82±2.14, and 4.74±2.21 µm respectively (p<0.05) at 3 months postoperatively.
Conclusions:
The remodeling of the epithelial thickness profile changes after myopic transepithelial surface ablation happened between 1 and 3 months postoperatively. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
