Abstract Details
Purpose:
To report the association of cilio-choroidal effusion and unilateral angle-closure glaucoma in a patient after consumption of cannabis
Setting:
Hillel yaffe medical center / ophthalmic division
Methods:
A 35 year old male diagnosed with acute angle closure glaucoma did not improve despite intensive treatment with anti-glaucoma medications. Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) revealed a cilio-choroidal effusion. Due to past history of drug abuse, urine test was checked and found to be positive for cannabis. After topical cyclopelgia and oral steroid therapy his symptoms improved substantially.
Results:
UBM was performed to evaluate the angle and ciliary body region .
The present case highlights the role of UBM in evaluating patients with acute angle closure glaucoma and the role of cannabis abuse in the development of cilio-choroidal effusion
Conclusions:
marijuana abuse should be kept in mind as a differential diagnosis for drug-induced acute onset of angle closure glaucoma and transient myopia with cilio-choroidal effusion. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
