Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the clinical outcomes of the ex-PRESS mini-device placed under a partial-thickness scleral flap in patients with high IOP after previous trabeculectomy, non-penetrating glaucoma surgery and after complicated cataract surgery.
Setting:
Excimer Eye Clinic, Moscow, Russia
Methods:
Procedures for Ex-PRESS implantations were performed under scleral flap in 45 patients 30-74 y.o. All patients were presented with medically uncontrolled POAG with prior cataract operation or failed filtration surgery.
Results:
At the last follow-up, mean IOP values decreased significantly from their preoperative levels: from 35 (±12) mmHg to 15 (±5) mmHg. All patients consumed significantly fewer anti-glaucoma medications postoperatively than before the procedure. Early in postoperative course hypotony <5 mmHg was observed just in 8% of patients. In 2 cases the choroidal detachment was observed.
Conclusions:
The Ex-PRESS device implantation under scleral flap is an effective procedure in complicated cases of open-angle glaucoma, provides good IOP control, low rate of complications, needed less glaucoma medication and fewer postoperative interventions. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
