Application of Glautex implant in surgical treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma

Purpose:

To analyze efficiency of Glautex implant in surgical treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma

Setting:

The S.N. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution, Volgograd branch

Methods:

efficiency of surgical treatment was analyzed in 49 patients (21 males, 28 females) with POAG (55 eyes): 10 eyes with initial stage of disease, 16 eyes with developed and 29 eyes with advanced glaucoma. Mean patients' age was 67±0,5 years. Baseline preoperative intraocular pressure, measured according to Maklakov's method averaged 29,80,69 mm Hg (from 27 to 38 mm Hg). No intraoperative complications were registered.

Results:

one month postoperatively mean IOP equaled 18,20,59 mm Hg. Cutting out of the implant was observed in 4 cases (7,2 %) in immediate postoperative period. In was noted that drainage eruption was more common in cases when conjunctival incision was made too close to limbus. Within the 9 consecutive months uncomplicated goniopuncture of the Descemet's membrane was performed in 15 cases (27, 3%). Normalization of intraocular pressure was achieved. Nine months postoperatively mean IOP value was 20,20,8 mm Hg. In 16,4 % of cases (9 eyes) Glautex drainage remained in surgical zone for 6 months.

Conclusions:

sleeve-like Glautex draining system is efficient, provides the correct positioning and hypotensive effect in postoperative period. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
