Abstract Details

Purpose:

Analysis of results of femto LASIK refractive high myopia correction.

Setting:

Ufa Eye Research Institute

Methods:

We examined 63 patients (126 eyes) aged 25 ± 1,32 with spherical high myopia operated with the Excimer Laser System Technolas 217Z100P (Germany). Patients were divided into two groups: group 1 ( high myopia ) - 43 patients (86 eyes) with myopia -7,33 ± 0,25 D; Group 2 ( very high degree of myopia ) - 20 patients ( 40 eyes ) with myopia -12,44 ± 0,63 D. Corneal thickness in the central zone was on average 585 ± 13,7 m before the surgery. Femtosecond laser irradiation was performed on the laser system «VICTUS Femtosecond Laser Platform» according to the method recommended by the manufacturer with the formation of gas pocket and pedicle flap on the top. Laser correction was performed by Excimer Laser «Technolas Eximer Laser 217Z100P» (Germany) according to standard procedures.

Results:

In the 1st group, a month after Femto Lasik the postoperative refraction deviation from calculated refraction ranged from -0,75 D overcorrection up to +0,25 D overcorrection (average 0,32 ± 0,06 D). After 6 months after surgery, postoperative refraction was different from planned one by an average of 0,38 ± 0,16 D. In the 2nd group the early postoperative refraction deviation from the planned ranged from -1,5 D overcorrection up to overcorrection +0,5 D (average 0,63 ± 0,16) D) (p1- 2 > 0.05 ) . 6 months after surgery, postoperative refraction was 0,54 ± 0,12 D (p1- 2 > 0.05).

Conclusions:

Performing correction of vision in patients with a high degree myopia on excimer laser system Technolas 217Z100P ( Germany ) using a laser system («VICTUS Femtosecond Laser Platform» Bausch & Lomb, USA) for flap formation is an effective method to achieve the calculated refraction for the correction of high myopia and a very high degree of myopia.
