The analysis of quality of vision in patients operated with the femto-LASIK method on the VisuMax installation

Abstract Details

Purpose:

Eximerlazer keratomileusis (LASIK) now is the most used technique when performing refraction operations at various ametropia. This technology provides high functional result, have insignificant percent of complications and the short period of rehabilitation. However messages on application of the femtosekond laser in ophthalmosurgery appears more and more, including for formation of the superficial valve of a cornea (Femto-Lasik). We analyzed quality of vision in patients with myopia, operated on the Femto-Lasik technology.

Setting:

The Khabarovsk branch of the State Institution Eye Microsurgery Complex named after S.N. Fyodorov, Khabarovsk, Russia

Methods:

It was investigated 30 patients. Average degree of myopia made 4.85±2.4; Average age 25.6±1.9. Men were 14, women - 16. 30 almost healthy people comparable on age, sex and degree of myopia made the control group. Quality of sight was estimated under specially developed questionnaire (Dutchin I.V., 2007). There were 12 questions, conditionally divided into 3 groups. The 1st group - subjective feelings of the patient (feeling of weight in eyes, doubling at high visual loading, a headache), the 2nd - subjective ocular reactions (feeling of a foreign matter, haziness, painful feelings, lacrimation); the 3rd - objective clinical signs (loss of lines comparatively to maximum visual acuity before operation, existence of biomicroscopic defined changes of an epithelium and stroma of cornea). Expressiveness of each sign was estimated on a special mark scale. Each complaint corresponded a minus 0.2 points from the maximum assessment. Survey was conducted in 1-2 months after operation. The final mark assessment of quality of vision was average size in all analyzed directions. The average size of equal 4.79±0.12 points received at testing of control group was taken for option of an excellent assessment of quality of vision.

Results:

In the 1st group the assessment of quality of vision made 4.52±0.17 points. Among the reasons lowered quality of vision: 1. Subjective oculyar reactions - 32 complaints (feeling of a foreign matter, haziness, lacrimation) - 44.4% of all complaints. 2. Subjective feelings of the patient - 28 complaints (feeling of weight in eyes, doubling at high visual loading, a headache) - 38.9%. 3. Objective clinical signs - 12 complaints (loss of lines from the maximum correction, a microerosion of an epithelium of a cornea) - 16.7%.

Conclusions:

1. A month later after operation quality of vision was insignificantly reduced in comparison with control group. 2. The visual exhaustion and reflex of a syndrome of a dry eye were the main reasons of decrease in quality of vision. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
