Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report 2 cases of significant corneal haze with Fourier Domain AS-OCT examination post CXL treatment for keratoconus.

Setting:

Magrabi Eye Hospital

Methods:

Case Report of 2 eyes of 2 keratoconus patients had Epi-off CXL treatment 'Dresden protocol' with corneal thickness of more than 400 μm after epithelium was removed.

Results:

1st case was a 21 years old female developed a dense corneal haze on the 3rd postoperative day with persistent epithelial defect which closed after 2 weeks with persistent central deep stromal haze . On the 6th month the cornea showed thinning with decreasing in the haze intensity on clinical examination and AS-OCT, at 6 months CDVA 20/50. 2nd case was 14 years male developed corneal edema on the 1st postoperative day with dense stromal haze, edema improved along 2 weeks period of time with residual dense stromal haze centrally which showed slight central clearing and stromal thinning along the next 6 months as shown on AS-OCT, CDVA was 20/30 at 6 months.

Conclusions:

Although it is considered very safe, collagen CXL can cause severe corneal stromal haze. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
