Purpose:

The aim of this study is to present and evaluate postoperative outcome of implanting this new 500 microns Intacs Sk Intracorneal Ring Segments for treatment of Mild to Moderate Keratoconus

Setting:

Centro Medico Docente La Trinidad, Caracas, Venezuela

Methods:

The sample consisted of 8 patients and 12 eyes. The selection criteria were: myopia equal to or greater than 4 diopters, astigmatism greater than or equal to 2.50 diopters, Central pachymetry at or above 450 microns tested with optical coherence tomography (OCT Cornea Module) and Orbscan®, Keratometry not greater than 52 diopters. The parameters analyzed were uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) logMAR, Best Corrected Visual Acuity (BCVA) logMAR. Spherical Equivalent (SE), flat and curve Pachymetry in the central 3m

Results:

Gender 75% male, Age 25 years means, Visual Acuity 1.35 LogMAR preop, 0.40 post 6 months, Equivalent Spherical Preop - 7.00D, -1.25D post 6 months, Keratometry preop mean 48D , post 6 months 43D

Conclusions:

Alternative to model with satisfactory refractive corneal curvature, biomechanical and visual outcomes in patients with keratoconus FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
