Abstract Details
Purpose:
The aim of the work was to study the possibility of using therapeutic soft contact lenses as a base (substrate) for cultivation the monolayer of the allogenic epithelial limbal stem cell (ELSC) of the human cornea.
Setting:
Stimulation of regeneration and repair in persistent epithelial defects (PDE) of the cornea of various etiologies, is a topical issue of Ophthalmology.
Methods:
On the inner surface of the therapeutic silicone - hydrogel soft contact lenses was placed 300mcl of culturing medium, which contain 500th ELSC of the human cornea. Cultivation was carried out under standard conditions.
Results:
Contact lenses have properties which promote adhesion and proliferation process of cell lines. During 10 days of cultivation we get a full monolayer of allogeneic ELSC of the human cornea on the inner surface of therapeutic soft contact lenses.
Conclusions:
Results open up the prospect for the implementation of this method in the complex treatment of patients with persistent epithelial defects of the cornea, providing the transplantation of cells on the surface of the affected cornea. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
