Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare complete ring implantation versus ICRS implantation to correct keratoconus.

Setting:

Dar El Oyoun Hospital, Cairo University

Methods:

30 eyes of keratoconic patients were included. 15 eyes had Femtosecond assisted Myoring corneal implantation (G1) and 15 had Femtosecond assisted Keraring segments (G2).Changes in UCVA ,BCVA, Mean K (Km) ,Sphere , topographic cylinder and Q value were recorded in all eyes between preoperative values and 6 weeks postoperatively.

Results:

In G1 the Km change was -6.15D , the UCVA change was -0.57 (LogMar) , BCVA change was -0.2 (LogMar) and the Q value change was 0.43. In G2 the Km change was -3.15D, the UCVA change was -0.48 (LogMar), BCVA change was -0.09 (LogMar) and the Q value change was 0.5. All means of both groups were not significantly different except for the Km change which was statistically significantly more in G1 (P=0.05).

Conclusions:

Both Complete rings and ring segments implantation are effective for improving corneal and visual parameters in keratoconus. Complete ring implantation may have a more flattening effect on the anterior corneal surface FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
