Abstract Details
Purpose:
To describe a case with satisfactory results of bullous keratitis progressing to descematocele treated with amniotic membrane transplantation.
Setting:
Dr. Gama Pinto Institute of Ophthalmology, Lisbon Portugal
Methods:
A 65-year-old caucasian male with a history of ocular neovascular glaucoma and proliferative diabetic retinopathy. After several episodes of acute hypertensive crises in the left eye the bullous keratitis progressing to descemetocele requiring hospitalization.
Results:
During hospitalization the patient was medicated with topical fortified antibiotics and was subjected to amniotic membrane transplantation.
After 7 months the biomicroscopy showed corneal neovascularization with central leukoma and the anterior segment OCT showed a good anatomical result.
Conclusions:
This case demonstrates the importance of amniotic membrane transplantation in cases of descemetocele. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
