Refraction and optic effect in patients with clinical keratoconus after insertion of intrastromal corneal ring segments (KeraRing), guided by femtosecond laser

Purpose:

To present the first results after insertion of KERARING, guided by femtosecond laser.

Setting:

Ophthalmological center Diathlasis Thessaloniki Greece

Methods:

: In 13 eyes out of 10 patients suffering from clinical keratoconus, insertion of KERARINGS guided by femtosecond laser was conducted. The visual acuity, keratometrics and HOA,LOA, COMA preoperatively and postoperatively were measured and recorded.

Results:

All patients had good postoperative follow up without intraoperative and postoperative complications. The average best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) preoperative was 0,48 (0,2-0,8) with correction : the average sphere correction was -2.9 D( +2,25- -7,00D) and the average cylinder correction was -3,4D (-1.75D - -5,50D). The average Follow Up five month postoperatively the average BCVA was 0,8) with an average sphere correction of -1,2D and an average cylinder correction of -1,4D. The average HOA was 0.927,LOA 2,688 ,COMA 0,657

Conclusions:

The use of femtosecond laser for the insertion of KERARINGS had the result of the accurate placement of KERARINGS into the corneal stroma and the maximal improvement of the visual acuity. Insertion of IKERARINGS, guided by femtosecond laser is a safe and a high efficacy method with good results in improvement of visual acuity. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
