Abstract Details
Purpose:
We describe a case of anterior breakthrough after femtosecond assisted intra-stromal arcuate astigmatic keratotomies (FIAK) in a post-cataract/peudophakic patient presenting with residual astigmatism of less than 1.50 D (diopters).
Setting:
Bascom Palmer Eye Institute
Methods:
Inadvertent anterior gas breakthrough was noticed intra-operatively in the left eye of the patient in only the nasal intra-stromal arcuate cut.
Results:
Post-operative refractive overcorrection, irregular corneal astigmatism and loss of corrected distance visual acuity, resulted after this complication.
Conclusions:
Careful operative planning and modification in the laser settings may avoid similar complications, resulting in optimum postoperative outcomes. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
