Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate early (1-month) outcomes following femtosecond laser-assisted implantation of a new intrastromal corneal ring (ICR) arc length in patients with keratoconus.
Setting:
Clinica Cadarso, Vigo, Spain.
Clinica Villoria, Pontevedra, Spain.
Methods:
This small case series study included 4 patients (mean age, 27.75 years [range, 17 to 37 years]) with central keratoconus who underwent femtosecond laser-assisted implantation of the 355° Keraring ICR (Mediphacos Ltda, Belo Horizonte, Brazil). Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), and keratometry were evaluated preoperatively, and at 1 month postoperatively.
Results:
At the 1-month follow-up visit, mean UCVA had improved from 0.075 preoperatively to 0.188, while mean BCVA improved from 0.40 to 0.55. There was also a reduction in mean spherical equivalent
(-5.38 postoperatively versus -10.88 preoperatively. An improvement in average keratometry values and high order aberrations was also observed.
Conclusions:
Implantation of the 355° Keraring ICR effected an improvement in measures of visual acuity and helped to regularize the central cornea in this small series of keratoconus patients. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
