Sliding conjunctival flap: a simple management for primary pterygium

Abstract Details
Purpose:
to evaluate the sliding conjunctival flap as a simple management for pterygium.
Setting:
Thwarah Hospital Sana'a - Yemnen
Methods:
The study includes 60 eyes of 45 patients with pterygium, 25 were male and 20 females with the mean age of the patients was (39.31) year's range 20 - 60 years.
Simple excision under local anesthesia was performed using an operating microscope with sliding conjunctival flap to cover the bare sclera
Results:
The recurrence rate was 4 cases ( 6.7%) after one year follow up.
The most common complication was flap retraction and persistent hyperaemia.
Conclusions:
Sliding conjunctival flap is safe and easy procedure to perform for the management of pterygium as an alternative to conjunctival autograft.
It has an acceptable recurrence rate. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
