Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the efficacy, safety, and predictability of New 355º intrastromal corneal ring segment (ICRS) and simultaneus intrastromal cross-linking for correction of nipple type keratoconus.
Setting:
Instituto Novavision, Mexico City
Methods:
This study comprised patients with nipple type keratoconus who had 355º ICRS implantation and simultaneus intrastromal cross-linking followed for 6 months. The uncorrected (UDVA) and corrected (CDVA) distance visual acuities, residual refractive errors, and complications were analyzed.
Results:
The study enrolled 7 eyes (4 patients). Mean age was 28.96 years (19 to 39),
The mean UDVA (decimal) was 0.17 Snellen preoperatively, 0.5 Snellen 6 months after ICRS implantation and intrastromal cross-linking. The mean preop CDVA was 0.47 Snellen, improved to 0.65 Snellen, 6 months after the procedure. 100% of eyes were within 1.00 diopter (D) of the desired refraction. The mean preop SE -7.05 D (-4.00 D to -8.25 D), mean postop SE -0.59 D (-0.75 D to +1.00 D)
Conclusions:
The New 355º intrastromal corneal ring segment (ICRS) provided reasonable visual acuty and refractive outcomes, indicationg that it is an alternative procedure for the correction of nipple type keratoconus.
