The efficacy of diquafosol tetrasodium and cyclosporine A in patients

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the efficacy of topical diquafosol tetrasodium and topical cyclosporine A for dry eye

Setting:

prospective randomized comparative analysis

Methods:

This study was performed in 30 patients (30 eyes) with dry eye level 1, 2. Fifteen patients (group 1) were treated with Diquafosol tetrasodium 3%(Diquas) and 15 patients (groups 2) used topical cyclosporine A 0.05%. Before treatment and at 2, 4 weeks tear film BUT, Shirmer, cornea and conjunctival stain, tear meniscus parameters at OCT were measured. Subjective symptom were asked with OSDI questionnaire.

Results:

Both treatments led to improvement in the tBUT, cornea and conjunctival stain, tear meniscus parameters at OCT and symptom score. Group 1 showed a little faster improvement at 2 weeks than group 2 but there isn't significant difference at 4 weeks. Shirmer score didn't show significant improvement at both groups. One patient in group 2 stop using eyedrop because of irritation.

Conclusions:

Diquafosol tetrasodium and topical cyclosporine were effective and safe in treating mild to moderate dry eye. Relatively Diquafosol tetrasodium showed better compliance and faster effect than topical cyclosporine A at 2 weeks. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
