Phacoemulsification technique for residents with peristaltic pump and slow motion technique (low settings)

Abstract Details



Purpose:

It is shown that phacoemulsification with peristaltic pump and slow motion technique is safe and effective to start learning residents.

Setting:

Unidad Medica de Alta Especialidad N 1 IMSS león Gto Mexico

Methods:

The study made High Specialty Medical Unit of the Mexican Institute of Social Security, 1 UMAE the city of Leon , Guanajuato, Mexico . Start date September 1, 2013 end date of May 1, 2014 24 patients were selected for a period of 8 months. Senile cataracts were selected in patients without ocular pathology aggregate . The surgeries were performed by three residents of ophthalmology third grade with no prior experience . The procedures were performed with phacoemulsification machines that had peristaltic pumps Brand Optikon model and model pulsar2 attend . Taking the duration of surgery. Phacoemulsification technique used in Slow Motion entire procedure was performed with low maximum vacuum of 150 mmHg parameters , U.S. 45 % max . The procedures were performed under the supervision of the same surgeon and if required their intervention . Length of procedure , solution used , used ultrasound and complications : The following data were recorded. All surgeries were videotaped for later review
