Never say 'never again' without complete evaluation of patients with occlusive pupillae

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report successful management of occlusive pupillae in 4 patients who came for blindness certificates.

Setting:

Rotary eye hospital , Vuyyuru, krishna (Dt), Andhra pradesh, India

Methods:

Case-1 Female 60yrs came for blindness certificate, LE was eviscerated due to trauma. she had PL+PR accurate in RE with occlusive papillae, she gave history of cataract surgery 4yrs back. Case- 2 Male 32yrs presented for blindness certificate due to bilateral loss of vision. RE PL +Ve and LE PL negative. RE occlusive pupillae, LE phthisis bulbi. Case-3 Female 45yrs presented with sudden decrease of vision 3 days after cataract surgery. RE PL PR+ with occlusive pupillae. Case-4 Male 60yrs presented with RE occlusive pupillae with history of trauma 10yrs ago. After detailed history and evaluation all 4 patients underwent B-SCAN, YAG LASER and visual potential was re-assessed required medical treatment was given and additional surgical procedures were performed where needed.

Results:

Best corrected visual acuity in Case1 - 6/24N18, Case 2 - CFCF, Case-3 - 6/6N6, Case 4 - 6/24N18.

Conclusions:

Never say 'never-again' without careful evaluation of patients who come for blindness certificates. Good history, clinical evaluation and application of simple surgical techniques and instruments can help some of the so called blind people see again. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
