Femtosecond laser cataract surgery with subsequent suture fixation of the capsular bag

Abstract Details

Purpose:

optimization of the strategy of cataract surgery with pseudoexfoliation syndrome, which include weak zonules and lens subluxation, by using a femtosecond laser and subsequent suture fixation of the capsular bag with the help of special devices.

Setting:

Ophthalmosurgical clinic 'New Vision' Kiev, Ukraine

Methods:

In nine eyes of nine patients with mild nuclear cataract and pseudoexfoliation syndrome, pupillary size 4,4-5.2mm was used femtosurgery with subsequent fixation of the capsular bag by using of the Capsule fixation device. In control group of 15 eyes (15 patients) with the same pathology, pupillary size 3,0-4,5mm and subsequent intraoperation manual dilatation of the pupil was used standard phacoemulsification and the capsular bag fixation with the help of the Capsule fixation device. Results were evaluated according to the severity of the uveal reaction and central corneal endothelial cell count at 7 and 30 days postoperatively.

Results:

There were no significant difference between two groups in the severity of uveal reaction, but central corneal endothelial cell count was significantly higher in the femtosecond laser cataract surgery group compared to the phacoemulsification group (P<.05).

Conclusions:

Femtosecond laser cataract surgery with subsequent using of the Capsule fixation device is more safe, more predictable, more efficient and less damaging compared to the standard phacoemulsification with subsequent fixation of the capsular bag by using of the Capsule fixation device FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
