Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the safety and clinical efficacy of implanting of an IOL HOYA (Fully Preloaded), model iSert 251.
Setting:
S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution
Methods:
Since June 2012 610 IOLs were implanted to patients aged 20 to 82 years. In 75.3% of cases the cataract has been complicated by concomitant pathology.
During the manipulation with the injector and IOL implantation we evaluated:
• ease and simplicity of preparation of system for implantation,
• predictability of IOL folding during injection,
• damage to the IOL optical part during implantation,
• quickness of unfolding and easiness of positioning of IOL in the capsular bag,
• lack of the tension folds on the posterior lens capsule after implantation.
IOL folding process should be under the control of the microscope to verify the correct position of IOL in the nozzle of the cartridge. Sharper cutting angle and a longer cut of cartridge nozzle imply the use of the 'cut' technique of implantation. Owing to the original design of the IOL - PMMA elements at the ends of haptics - the best visualization, lack of adhesion of haptic to the optic during implantation, easiness of positioning and uniformity of tension of capsular bag arches were achieved.
Results:
In all cases the IOL was implanted in the capsular bag, any specific complications were revealed during the operation. After implantation the distention of surgical incision was not noted. The postoperative period was unresponsiveness. The planned functional results were achieved in all patients.
Conclusions:
HOYA iSert IOL 251 is simple, easy to operate. It allows conducting implantation through an incision of 2.2 mm easily without exerting stress on the incision, achieving the predictable functional results. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
