The LENTIS Mplus IOL: visual outcomes after cataract surgery

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess the visual outcome after cataract sugery using the Lentis M plus premium IOL.

Setting:

A retrospective study conducted over a period of three years at the Emergency Eye Hospital in Bucharest, Romania.

Methods:

The study included 58 patients (75 eyes) with Lentis M plus IOL. 18 patients underwent cataract surgery in both eyes. Most cases (75%) presented nuclear or posterior subcapsular cataract without association of any other significant ocular pathology. Among the rest, which we considered particular cases, we had 3 patients with monocular blindness, 2 traumatic cataracts, 8 patients with diabetes and 1 with Down syndrome. We assessed the visual acuity for distance using a Snellen chart and for near using a Jaeger chart and we also noted the subjective satisfation with the result.

Results:

We implanted a wide range of diopters from +12,5D to +25D. All the patients had an improvement in visual acuity after surgery, 72% of eyes reaching 7/10 or better for distance. More than 80% of eyes had a J3 or better visual acuity for near after surgery and were happy with the result. Obtaining an objective refraction after surgery in order to compare it to the initial target was very difficult.

Conclusions:

The majority of our patients were happy with their visual acuity postoperatively, as they were independent from wearing glasses. A few of them (5,3%) were unhappy with their functional result, reporting ghost images and unsatisfactory visual acuity (1 case underwent lens exchange) FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
