Comparison of the Lentis Mplus Toric with the new modified Lentis Mplus Toric X

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the optical, functional outcomes, contrast sensitivity, patients satisfaction after Implantation of multifocal IOLs Lentis M plus toric with Lentis M plus toric X

Setting:

Eye Clinic Cham, Janahof 2, 93413 Cham

Methods:

In prospective case studies we implanted Lentis M plus toric in 20 eyes of 13 patients from July 2009 to November 2011 and Lentis M plus torix X in 20 eyes of 15 patients from Juli 2013 to January 2014. We evaluated post-operative refraction, uncorrected (UCVA) and best corrected (BCVA) distance, intermediate and near visual acuity, reading speed using Radner Charts and contrast sensitivity three months after implantation. The quality of vision, glare, halos, the need to wear glasses and the personal satisfaction of the patients was assessed with a validated questionnaire.

Results:

Three month after the implantation the mean BCVA for distance was 0,83 for Lentis M plus toric and 0,82 for Lentis M plus toric X with the mean correction of -0,53 for Lentis M plus toric and +0,25 for Lentis M plus toric X. The mean UCVA for distance was 0,78 for both lenses, for intermediate vision 0,7 for Lentis M plus toric and 0,72 for Lentis M plus toric X and for near vision 0,81 for Lentis M plus toric and 0,88 for Lentis M plus toric X. Glare and Halos during night driving were for Lentis M plus toric X less than for Lentis M plus toric. 70% of the patients after implantation of Lentis M plus toric were completely independent from glases, 96 % of the patients after implantation of Lentis M plus toric X. The Lentis M plus toric X shows increased visual acuity for all intermediate distances and better near visual acuity. 8% of the patients after Implantation of Lentis M plus toric were unsatisfied, none of the patients was unsatisfied after implantation of Lentis M plus toric X.

Conclusions:

The main reason for dissatisfaction after the implantation after the previous Mplus lens was the need of reading glasses for small print. The MF Lentis® Mplus toric X IOL provides good visual acuity for distance, intermediate and near. As a result of the improved near vision with this new lens none of the patients needed the glasses for reading of small print. Glare and Halos during the night driving were less.
