Abstract Details
Purpose:
Clinical evaluation of two diffractive, pupil independent, multifocal intraocular lenses (MIOL) with a different near addition (Tecnis ZKB00 & ZLB00, AMO, USA).
Setting:
International Vision Correction and Research Centre (IVCRC) & David J Apple Laboratory
Methods:
The ZKB00 and the ZLB00 MIOL with a near addition of +2.75 D and +3.25 D were implanted during cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange. Follow up examinations included: monocular and binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA), distance corrected near visual acuity (DCNVA), corrected near visual acuity (CNVA) and individual reading distance and speed (Salzburg Reading desk).
Results:
1 month after surgery, the median monocular UDVA was 0.1 [logMAR]. Postoperative median monocular UNVA was 0.15 and binocular UNVA was 0.05. The patients were very satisfied with their outcome.
Conclusions:
The ZKB00 and ZLB00 MIOL with a lower near addition provide good functional results after surgery with a high percentage of spectacle independence and patient satisfaction. Especially the comparison of the individual reading distance and speed will be very interesting at the 3 month visit.
