Abstract Details
Purpose:
To study factors influencing on refractive and visual outcomes after cataract surgery in patients after incision keratotomy.
Setting:
Republican Ophthalmological center, 10th State Hospital, Belarus, Minsk.
Methods:
30 patients with different types of corneal incisions after cataract surgery were included in retrospective research. Standard phacoemulsification procedure was performed
Results:
During the research following factors which significantly can influence on the postoperative result were revealed: the amount of incisions on a cornea, and as following the cornea condition;
The chosen operation technique access (scleral or a corneal incision);
Decision about optimal method of IOL power calculation
Patient's refractive history.
From 30 patients, only the two had refraction history, 10 patients had 8 corneal incisions, 15 patients had 16
corneal incisions, 5-more than corneal incisions. Preoperative uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) averaged 0,06 +/-0,02, BCVA 0,2+/-0,06. In 15 patients the IOL power was calculated with the help formulas, at remained 15 - empirically adding quantity of dioptries to settlement size depending on amount of corneal incisions. UCVA postoperative averaged 0,3+/-0,04 Decimal; and CVA - 0,65 +/-0,1.
Conclusions:
Forecasting refractive outcomes in patients with corneal incisions requiring cataract surgery is a complex challenge where each element is important, both as preoperative examination of the patient, as far as surgical tactics decision. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
