Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the true net power data and EKR parameters of patients after corneal ablative surgery and its value for IOL biometry in patients undergoing cataract surgery

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Medical University Graz, Austria

Methods:

29 eyes of 19 patients underwent IOL biometry with the IOL Master (Zeiss, Germany). All eyes had a history of corneal ablative surgery for myopia. Corneal power measurements were performed using the Pentacam (Oculus, Germany). Two different software versions were compared: 6.02r10 vs 6.07r12

Results:

Corneal power measurements showed no difference between the two software versions in terms of EKR in the 1.0 and 4.5 mm area. The true net power seemed to underestimate the corneal power by 0.5 D, when the newer software version (6.07r12) was used.

Conclusions:

The EKR parameters are identical between the older and newer software versions, but the true net power seems to be underestimated with the newer versions, which might result in a myopic refractive surprise in patients with a history of LASIk or PRK undergoing cataract surgery with IOL implantation.
