Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate refractive outcomes and residual astigmatism in patients undergoing IOL implantation of multiple platforms (Toric, Multifocal, and Monofocal) with or without femtosecond laser created arcuate incisions during cataract surgery with the Verion&trade Image Guided System

Setting:

Global setting of Multi-Center ophthalmology clinics. A prospective clinical study with IRB approval

Methods:

Prospective, multi-center study of patients undergoing laser and manual refractive cataract surgery with different IOL platforms (Toric, Multifocal, and monofocal). A standard surgical planner is utilized to determine the optimum patient-specific surgical plan. After lens removal, an IOL was implanted and centered using digital alignment. Postoperatively, refractive outcome was analyzed at 1 month and 3 months.

Results:

Pre-operative surgical plan was developed and digitally transferred to the operative devices (VERION&trade Digital Marker L, LENSX® Laser System, VERION&trade Digital Marker M, and operating microscope). Digital IOL alignment and centration eliminated the need for ink-marking providing better precision in cyclotorsion compensation and Toric IOL aligment. Outcomes data is collected and analyzed. The distribution of residual refractive cylinder indicates 70% of the cases are within 0.50D.

Conclusions:

The initial results of this study using the new image guided system during cataract procedure indicates that the system assists surgeons in providing better precision than using the conventional method of ink-marking for Toric IOL alignment and cyclotorsion compensation.
