Abstract Details
Purpose:
Evaluation of two hydrophobic IOLS in terms of PCO and Glistening at 3 years
Setting:
Ophthalmology department, Clinique Beausoleil 119 av de Lodève,
Montpellier, France
Methods:
Material: The study is a retrospective controlled trial analyzing the PCO and the glistening after implantations of two hydrophobic IOLs. Group 1 is made of 65 patients implanted with the PODEye (Physiol, Belgium) aspherical IOL. Group 2 is made of 30 eyes implanted with the Acrysof aspheric IOL. the normality of the groups is tested and the groups are compared using a chi-squared test. The occurrence of PCO and glistening with time is noted. Only glistening greater or equal than grade 2 is concerned. Both PCO and glistening occurrence are compared using a Mann-Witney test.
Results:
Both groups had 3 years of follow-up. No statistical difference was seen in the occurrence of PCO. A statistical difference could be seen in the appearance of glistening between the two groups.
Conclusions:
after three years, the two IOLs are providing the same visual acuity. The PODEye presented the same outcomes in terms of PCO that the Acrysof but was better in terms of glistening. FINANCIAL INTEREST: One of more of the authors... gains financially from product or procedure presented
