Abstract Details

Purpose:

To show the efficiency of manual and eletronic marker with OPD Scan III, immediately after the surgery.

Setting:

Centro de Microcirurgia Ocular Atibaia City - Atibaia Country - Brazil

Methods:

155 eyes with cataract and corneal astigmatism submitted to facoemulsification(INFINIT - ALCON - EUA), with toric iol implantation (TFLEX, MTFLEX - RAYNER - ENGLAND), (RESTOR TORIC, TORIC - ALCON - EUA), AT TORBI, ATLISA TORIC - ZEISS - GERMANY), (TECHINIS TORIC - AMO - EUA). 85 Eyes using manual marker(gravity marker, chopper and Mendes ring(ODOUS - BRAZIL), and 70 eyes using eletronic marker(AKAHOSHI MOD AE2930 - ASICO-EUA). Immediately after the surgery, patient wa moved to the other room to do the OPD Scan and chek the IOL axis.

Results:

2 eyes with manual markers and 3 with eletronic were 4 or more degree outside the calculated axis and it was necessary to return to the surgery room to put the IOL in the correct axis. 2 patients with narrow face and deph orbit were impossible to use the eletronic marker and we used manual marker.

Conclusions:

Both markers are very security and precise with the correct technic. Manual marker is cheap and useful in all patients. Eletronic markers is expensive but more practical. In conclusion, both markers and OPD scan are complete option for toric IOLs implantation. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
