Abstract Details

Purpose:

To determine the difference, between the amount of BSS (Balanced Salt Solution) that enters the eye using the Infinity Vision System (Alcon, Fort Worth, TX. USA) and the Catapulse Lens Removal System (Med-Logics, Athens, TX. USA).

Setting:

Mendez Vision Institute, Tijuana, Baja California. Mexico.

Methods:

30 Random non complicated cases were selected, all patients had Femtosecond laser (LenSx, Alcon Fort Worth, TX. US) assisted cataract surgery. 15 using the Catapulse Lens Removal System and 15 using the Infinity Vision System. Prior to introducing the hand-piece the BSS bag was weight, and weight again after the nucleus and epi-nucleus were removed. The difference in weight was compered.

Results:

Using the Infinity Vision System an average of 139.46 grams (SD 15 grams) of BSS was used. Using the Catapulse Lens Removal System an average of 127.22 grams (SD 19 grams) of BSS was used.

Conclusions:

No Statistical difference in amount of fluid during a uncomplicated femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery between the Infinity Vision System and the Catapulse Lens Removal System was found.
