Abstract Details
Purpose:
To demonstrate the effectivity of endophthalmitis prevention protocol in our centre in terms of post-operative endophthalmitis incidence in over 4600 cases
Setting:
Consecutive Phaco-emulsification cataract surgery lists done in an Eye Hospital Group in India(Vasan Eye Care Hospital in Siliguri) from Aug 2011 - Aug 2013 by 6 different surgeons
Methods:
Simple data analysis obtained from O.T. records of Phaco cases and of Intra-vitreal antibiotic injections performed over a 2 year period. Our pre & per-operative protocol is presented. Our incidence is compared with ESCRS, China, Arvind Eye Hospitals India & Swedish Study results
Results:
The incidence worked out is 1 case of endophthalmitis out of 4622 phaco cases i.e.0.021% which matches very well with other published standards
Conclusions:
Our protocol for prevention of post-operative endophthalmitis is safe & effective over a large case series FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
