Abstract Details
Purpose:
To show the effectiveness of using mini-invasive 25/23 gauge system for the management of cataract surgery complications.
Setting:
Department of Ophthalmology, 'Santa Maria Delle Croci' Hospital, Ravenna, Italy
Methods:
We use anterior approach with 25 gauge vitrectomy system when the capsule is ruptured with implantation of posterior iris-fixed IOL implantation. In case of total or partial dropped lens fragments into the vitreous cavity, a 25/23 gauge pars plana approach to remove the lens remnants is performed. A 27 gauge transconjuntival light is always used to perform bimanual technique and a radical vitrectomy surgery.
Results:
Anatomic and functional results seem to be better with this new approach than with the conventional techniques.
Conclusions:
The 25/23 gauge systems allowed us to treat easily these complications, with minimal post-operative inflammatory reaction and fast functional recovery. The transconjunctival 27 gauge chandelier helps us to manage easily these difficult cataract surgery complications. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
