Abstract Details

Purpose:

To demonstrate a combined surgical solution of an ectopic lens on a 10 years old girl with Marfan-syndrome.

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Medical University of Pécs, Hungary

Methods:

A Cionni capsular tension ring (CTR) (Morcher GmbH, Stuttgart, Germany) was implanted into the capsular bag, and the bag was pulled to its original place and fixed with a 10/0 nylon scleral suture (Ethicon W1713, Johnson&Johnson, UK). Because of the young age of the patient a primary posterior capsulorhexis (PCCC) was performed, through which anterior vitrectomy was carried out and a hydrophobic one-piece acrylic intraocular lens (AcrySof, Alcon, USA) was implanted into the capsular bag. The wound was closed with suture and Cefuroxime (0.1 mg/ml) was given intracamerally.

Results:

The preoperative visual acuity (VA) of 0.15 (correction: -14.0D = -2.0D cyl 180o) on her left eye improved to 0.5 (correction: -0.5D = -1.0D cyl 135o) and near VA improved to J1 (+3.0D)

Conclusions:

A successful cataract surgery combined with CTR implantation, posterior capsulorhexis and anterior vitrectomy was performed on an ectopic lens of a Marfan syndrome patient. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
