Abstract Details

Purpose:

To study efficiency and safety of use of the femtosecond laser in cataract surgery at children.

Setting:

Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology, Ufa Eye Research Institute, Ufa, Russia.

Methods:

Femtolaser stage of the cataract surgery with use of the femtosecond laser VICTUS&trade platform (Technolas Perfect Vision/Baush&Lomb, Germany) was applied at 6 children (6 eyes) aged from 3 to 6 years (4,66±0,49 years). All the surgeries were performed under the general anesthesia. The set diameter of front capsulorhexis ranged from 4,75 to 5,0 mm. Than phacoaspiration of lenticular masses with implantation of IOL Tecnis (USA) with subsequent central back capsulectomy and front vitrectomy was carried out.

Results:

The front capsule flap was removed, hydrodissection was carried out, after phacoaspiration of lenticular masses was made intracapsular implantation of IOL. Than under IOL was entered the tip of vitreotom for the back capsulectomy with front vitrectomy. Centered capsulorhexis of necessary diameter allowed to evenly cover the periphery of optical part of IOL with flap of the front capsule, providing its optimum position in eye. In all eyes was gained the centrally positioned front capsulorhexis with ideal roundish form of set diameter. In 1 eye (16,6%) in the field of vacuum ring contact single subconjunctival microhemorrhages were observed. In 1 eye (16,6%) after femtosecond capsulotomy narrowing of pupil was observed.

Conclusions:

The first results have shown efficiency and safety of use of the femtosecond laser in cataract surgery at children. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
