Abstract Details
Purpose:
To determine the possibility and advisability of using xenon for preanesthesia. To develop methods of use for xenon-oxygen mixture and to determine the level and duration of the homeostasis parameters stabilization. To reduce preoperative stress and to provide preoperative comfort.
Setting:
Ophthalmology clinic «OKOMED» Russia, Moscow
Methods:
Two groups of patients, control group (76 persons) and main (51 people) group, selected for surgery on cataract (PEC with IOL) and glaucoma (NPDS, implantation of Ahmed valve). Among comorbidity often noted: ischemic heart diseases, cardiosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, encephalopathy. All patients were inhaling xenon-oxygen mixture by the method developed by us at the «KTK-2» for 10-12 minutes. All patients underwent monitoring observations in intraocular pressure, A/D, pulse, blood sugar. Pain threshold was determined by the method of Claton-Brock and needle breakdown. The degree of comfort was determined through surveys and observations by the visual analogue method.
Results:
Pain threshold of the patients in the main group significantly increased (53%). Hemodynamics (А/D, PS) were stable on satisfactory terms. None of the patients had changes in indicators of blood sugar. Comfort increased and the level of preoperative stress was reduced compared with the control group.
Conclusions:
Inhalation of xenon xenon-oxygen mixture) for preanesthesia is a highly effective method for amplification of analgesic and sedative effects, stabilization of the vegetative nervous system and the parameters of homeostasis. Method provides comfort and reduced levels of preoperative stress, prophylaxis of complications throughout the perioperative period. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
