Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the effects of PRK fine tuning after multifocal IOL implantation on uncorrected distant and near visual acuities.

Setting:

VeniVidi Eye Hospital - Istanbul

Methods:

We evaluated the results of PRK fine tuning of a 54 years old hyperopic male patient who had previous bilateral multifocal IOL implantation after phaco surgeries. The uncorrected distant and near visual acuities (UCDVA, UCNVA) and refractive status were recorded. PRK fine tuning was performed with Schwind Amaris ® excimer laser. Final evaluations were recorded one month after the excimer laser corrections.

Results:

The refractive status was -0.25 D (-0.50 D at 92 degrees) in OD, -1.00 D in OS. The UCNVA ODS was 0.8 (Snellen lines), UCNVA was 20/40 in OD and 20/50 in OS. YAG laser capsulotomies were done 6 months after the phaco surgeries when the best corrected visual acuities decreased due to posterior capsule opacification (PCO). PRK fine tuning treatment was done to correct the minor refractive errors. The final post-PRK visual acuities were UCDVA ODS 1.0 and UCNVA OU 20/40 respectively.

Conclusions:

Correction of even minor refractive errors is very important to increase the amount and the quality of the distant and near visual acuities after multifocal IOL implantations with phaco surgery
