Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess an effect of a treatment of a ReLEX SMILE interface with neodymium YAG laser at a patient with recurrent and progressive epithelial ingrowth
Setting:
Eye Clinics DuoVize Prague
Methods:
A case report of a patient with symptomatic recurrent and progressive epithelial ingrowth after ReLEX SMILE, showing marks of melting of a stromal bed. Neodymium YAG treatment of interface, using low, 0.6mJ, energy spots was performed, following the guidelines of a study evaluating the safety and efficacy of this procedure as reported by Jorge Alio in 2009. Subjective and objective refraction was compare pre- and postoperatively, likewise corneal topography.
Results:
After multiple application of the neodymium YAG spots the epithelial ingrowth dissappered. Objective measurements showed decrease of astigmatism. We have measured no evidence of recurrent epithelial ingrowth or central scarring.
Conclusions:
This study concluded that the neodymium YAG laser puncturation represents low-risk approach in epithelial ingrowth after ReLEX SMILE with no evidence of recurrent epithelial ingrowth or central scarring. Avoiding excessive invasive procedure and protecting against another recurrent epithelial ingrowth makes this technique an important part of a postReLEX SMILE complication management.
