Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess rotational stability of Rayner T-flex toric intraocular lenses (IOL) (573T and 623T; Rayner Intraocular Lenses Ltd) in a series of cataract surgery patients with corneal astigmatism >1.50 diopters (D).
Setting:
Hospital Litomysl, NPK, a.s.
Czech Republic
Methods:
This prospective, observational study included 80 eyes from 72 consecutive patients with pre-operative regular corneal astigmatism ≥1.50 D in which Rayner T-flex toric IOL implantation was performed after phacoemulsification. Deviation from attempted toric IOL axis were measured in period 1, 3 and 6 months.
Results:
Mean deviation from attempted toric IOL axis was 2,01º in first month , 1,71º in the third month and 1,5º in the six months after surgery.
1-3 º rotation was in 78% of eyes in the first month, 81,5% of eyes in the third month and 85% of eyes in the six months after surgery.
4-6º rotation was in 13,7% of eyes in all months.
7-10º rotation was in 3,8% of eyes in the first and the third month, 0% of eyes in the six months after surgery.
Conclusions:
Rayner T-flex toric IOL implantation is an effective and reliable option to correct preexisting astigmatism in cataract surgery whit good rotational stability in the bag.
