Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the postoperative outcomes after implantation of a hydrophilic aspheric Precizon® toric intraocular lens, with a transitional conic toric surface, (IOL) for the correction of corneal astigmatism in patients undergoing cataract surgery.
Setting:
 FISABIO OFTALMOLOGIA MEDICA (FOM)
Cornea and Refractive Surgery Unit
Methods:
A total of Fifty-three eyes of 32 patients with cataract received a Precizon toric IOL( model 565, Ophtec) with a cylindrical power between 2.0 and 6 D. Retrospective non comparative clinical study were analysed. IOL power calculation was performed using optical coherence biometry (IOLMaster®). Outcomes of visual acuities, refraction, and IOL rotation were analyzed at the 1st week, 1st, and 3rd month’s evaluations.
Results:
 Target refraction was emmetropia. Corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) increased from median 0.3 ± 0,2 preoperatively to median 0.9 ± 0,1 at 3 months postoperatively (p<0.001). Mean preoperative corneal astigmatism was 3.1 ± 0,6 D. The mean preoperative subjective cylinder was -3 ± 1 D and 3 months postoperatively -0.5± 0,4 D(p<0.001). At last follow-up, 36% of the eyes had a residual astigmatism of 1 D, 29.5% of 0.75 D, 11.5% of 0.5 D, 0% of 0,25D and 23% of 0 D. None of this IOLs required realignment.
Conclusions:
Precizon® toric IOL showed good postoperative clinical outcomes regarding efficacy and safety in the correction of preexisting regular corneal astigmatism associated with cataract surgery.
