Abstract Details
Purpose:
The main criteria of implantation of multifocal IOLs are the vision acuity of pseudophakic eyes and posterior capsule opacification (PCO) prophylaxis. Therefore, the purpose of our work was the analysis of clinical and functional results of senile cataract phacoemulsification with Lentis IOL implantation.
Setting:
The work was performed in the State Institution Eye Microsurgery Complex named after academician S.N. Fyodorov, Khabarovsk, Russia.
Methods:
The mean values of UCVA (The Golovin–Sivtsev table) for different distances (near, intermediate and far) and status of posterior capsule were studied in 82 patients (82 eyes) postoperatively 1 and 3 years after senile cataract phacoemulsification with Lentis Comfort IOL (Oculentis Gmbh) implantation. Emmetropia was the refractive aim. Patients with severe macular pathology, glaucoma and corneal diseases and with astigmatism more than 1 D were not included into the performed investigation.
Results:
The refraction of pseudophakic eyes 1 year after operation varied from +0,75 to -0,5 (mean +0,35±0,16) D, 3 years later – from +1.0 to -0,5 (mean +0,35±0,16) D. Distant UCVA 1 year after phacoemulsification was 0,81±0,02, intermediate – 0,76±0,04, near 0,47±0.03. The indices of distant UCVA 3 years postoperatively made 0,72±0,03, intermediate – 0,68±0,02, near – 0,43±0,01. 1 year after operation the optical part of posterior capsule remained clear in all eyes, 3 years later 4 eyes (4,9%) had local PCO.
Conclusions:
Conducted analysis showed that implantation of Lentis Comfort IOL at phacoemulsification of senile cataract provides high clinical and functional results of performed surgery.
