Abstract Details
Purpose:
Achieving the target refraction is a main goal in cataract surgery. With the light adjustable lens it is possible to adjust the refraction after surgery according to the patient's wish. The aim of this trial was to investigate the long term safety of this intraocular lens.
Setting:
University Eye Hospital, Bochum, Germany
Methods:
7 years after light adjustable lens implantation refractive stability, posterior capsule opacification, intraocular pressure, clarity of the IOL, macula and corneal diseases were investigated.
Results:
The light adjustable lens demonstrated a high biocompatibility. No elevated corneal or macular diseases were seen. Furthermore, no significant refractive changes were measured.
Conclusions:
For the first time the light adjustable lens offers the possibility to change the refraction after cataract surgery with a high long-term safety.
