Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare the defocus curve of three different type of Intraocular lenses (IOLs): extended depth of focus (ATLara, Carl Zeiss ), Versario 3f ( trifocal, Bausch and Lomb) and bifocal (Comfort, Topcon)
Setting:
Hospital Universitario de La Moraleja (Madrid)
Methods:
We performed monocular defocus curve of fifteen patients (thrity eyes ) having undergone cataract surgery in December 2017 and January 2018 . Ten eyes were implanted with ATLara (group A), ten Comfort (group B) and ten with with Versario 3f IOL (group C) Only eyes without co-morbidities and uneventful surgeries were included.
The tests were performed a month and a half after the surgery.
Primary outcomes consisted of visual acuity (VA) at distance (6m) , intermediate (67 cm) and near (33 cm) with the distance correction and the defocus curve.
Results:
Mean visual acuity and standard deviation (SD) were-0,005 (SD= 0,012) in group A, 0,000 in group B (SD=0,000) and 0,043 (SD=0,031) in group C for distance vision; 0,11 (SD=0,069) , 0,18 (SD=0,043) and 0,13 (SD=0,095) for intermediate and 0,427(SD=0,045) , 0,717(SD= 0,0752) and 0,333 (SD=0,039) for near vision respectively.
In the defocus curve, significantly better visual acuities were present in eyes in group A and C for near vision (p=0,013) There were no differencies among groups in distance (p=0,067) and intermediate vision (p=0,42)
Conclusions:
The ATLara and the Versario3f provided better near vision than the Comfort. However there were no differencies in distance and intermediate vision among them. All of them are excellent choices for presbyopia correction in the setting of cataract surgery.
