Abstract Details
Purpose:
Compare simulation and optical bench outcomes of a new set of complementary EDOF IOLs.
Setting:
Rennes University / Lannion CI R&D department
Methods:
A new set of two complementary extended depth of vision (EDOF) IOLs were designed using Zemax software: this set consists in two types of EDOF IOLs, one with a peak of 2 D and with an EDOF zone towards the near visual range and the fellow IOL having a peak on 3D, with its EDOF zone towards intermediate vision range. Ray tracing outcomes (power, through-focus MTFs) for different pupil apertures were compared to samples manufactured in a proprietary hydrophobic acrylic, using Trioptics optical bench, on and off-axis.
Results:
Simulations and sample measurements agreed, and peaks were, as expected, at 2D and 3D for each type of IOL. The extension of the depth of focus was moreover consistent between simulation and optical outcomes: the overall MTF over 0.15 was of 1.5D for both IOLs.
Conclusions:
This set of IOLs was conceived to achieve true EDOF range of vision. Combining the two complementary profiles should enable a sharp vision range from 90 cm to 40 cm.
