Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate visual outcomes, predictability, time progress of possible pseudoaccommodation and ease of performing daily tasks with pseudo-accommodating Tetraflex HD IOL.

Setting:

Eye centre Prague, Prague, Czech republic

Methods:

A retrospective study based on evaluation of 110 eyes of 55 patients was done within 4 years. Only cataract patients were included. The patients were evaluated for distance, intermediate and near visual acuity at 1 month, 1 year and 4 years after the surgery. A survey was given measuring patient satisfaction regarding photopsia and spectacle independence.

Results:

Number of patients achieved uncorrected binocular distance visual acuity of 0,8 and better was 100%, 100% and 100% at 1 month, 1 year and 4 years respectively. Number of patients achieved uncorrected binocular intermediate visual acuity 0,8 and better was 92%, 87% and 67% at 1 month, 1 year and 4 years respectively. Number of patients achieved uncorrected binocular near visual acuity 0,5 and better was 66%, 64% and 53% at 1 month, 1 year and 4 years respectively. No patients reported any kind of photopic phenomena. Patients reported high levels of spectacle independence in everyday activities.

Conclusions:

The pseudo-accomodating Tetraflex HD IOL reports excellent visual outcomes and zero level of photopic phenomenona. The patients attained very good uncorrected visual acuity at far, intermediate and social near distance. For longer reading and smaller letters (jaeger number 4 and smaller) some patients prefer to wear low power spectacles (mostly +1,0 dpt up to +1,5 dpt). Tetraflex HD IOL appeared to be a very good choice for patients who won´t tolerate photopic phenomenons and wanted as much spectacle independence as possible.
