Clinical safety after implantation of the phakic implantable collamer lens with a central hole: two year follow-up

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To study long-term safety and effectiveness of ICL V4c implantation.

Setting:

Chengdu Aier Eye Hospital

Methods:

ICL V4c implantation was done for 1154 eyes of 586 high myopia patients from January to December, 2015. Mean preoperative spherical equivalent (SE) was -9.573±3.192D, and the follow-up duration was 2 years. Postoperative uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), refractive error, intraocular pressure (IOP), corneal endothelial cell count, vault, adverse reactions, and complications were evaluated.

Results:

2 years postoperatively UDVA was 1.049±0.192, BCVA was 1.126±0.151. Compared with preoperative BCVA, UDVA increased by 2 lines or above in 51.49% of eyes, no eye lost 1 or more lines of BCVA. Efficacy index and safety index were 1.14±0.31 and 1.22±0.25 respectively. Postoperative SE was -0.319±0.315 D, 94.95% of eyes were within ±0.5 D and 100% of eyes were within ±1.0 D. Mean vault was 362.2±222.6 μm. Postoperative retinal detachment occurred in 1 eye. Increased IOP occurred in 4 eyes. No cataract were found. There was no significant loss in corneal endothelial cells.

Conclusions:

It was observed in the 2-year clinical study of V4c implantation that, postoperative complication incidence was low, corneal endothelia and crystalline lenses were not significantly affected, and the surgery had good safety, effectiveness and predictability.
