Purpose:
To observe and examine the clinical efficacy and value of implantation of phakic implantable collamer lens (ICL V4c) in treatment of adults with ametropia and amblyopia.
Setting:
Kunming Aier Eye Hospital
Methods:
Retrospective analysis of 36 patients (70 eyes) with moderate to high myopia and amblyopia who underwent implantation with new ICL V4c with a central hole from December 2015 to December 2016. Follow-up examinations on uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), refractive error, intraocular pressure (IOP), endothelial cell count, and vault were performed until 6 months after surgery.
Results:
At 6 months postoperatively, UDVA of 100% of eyes achieved or exceeded the best CDVA before surgery, and 85.7% of patients had an improvement of 2 lines or more. The preoperative spherical equivalent (SE) of patients was −11.31 ± 4.41 D, and SE at 6 months after surgery was −0.20 ± 0.87 D, respectively. Postoperative IOP was stable and there were no complications, such as glaucoma. The mean corneal endothelial cell count was 2691.94 ± 400.09 cells/mm2 preoperatively, and 2682.65 ± 315.83 cells/mm2 at 1 month after surgery, with no statistically significant difference observed (P > 0.05).
Conclusions:
ICL V4c implantation for treatment of adult moderate to high myopia with amblyopia was found to be safe, effective, and predictable.
