Abstract Details
Purpose:
The aim of our study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of using phakic intraocular lenses for correcting high-grade myopia.
Setting:
Scientific research institute of eyes disease, Kazakhstan, Almaty
Methods:
15 patients with high myopia underwent complete diagnostic examination, there were no contraindications to surgical correction. Spherical equivalent refraction was average equal to (-) 16,5 0,14 D, cylinder (-) 2,75 0,17 D. UCVA in this group was average 0,01±0,08 and BCVA - 0,35±0.12. Posterior chamber intraocular lens STAR implantation was performed according to individual keratorefractive indices. The average age was 31 years. For three days before the operation, all patients underwent basal coloboma for the prevention of hypertension in the postoperative period. Observation period was 18 months.
Results:
The UCVA after operation improved in all cases in comparison to UCVA before it. After intraocular lens STAR implantation UCVA was 0,55±0,14. We obtained diminishing of postoperative astigmatism. Spherical equivalent refraction was average equal to (-) 0.87±0,08 D, cylinder (-) 0,75±0,09.
Conclusions:
The received results showed the effectiveness and safety of posterior chamber intraocular lens STAR implantation in the correction high-grade myopia, which allows better visual acuity and improvement in patients comfort life.
