Toric ICL in a 10-year stable keratoconus after corneal cross-linking

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To present one case of toric ICL in a long term stable keratoconus.

Setting:

Instituto Oftalmologico Hoyos. Barcelona (Spain) Hospital Esperit Sant. Barcelona (Spain)

Methods:

Female patient with keratoconus in both eyes with UCVA 20/40 right eye (RE) and 20/30 left eye (LE), BCVA 20/25 RE and 20/20 LE, and refraction of +0.75-3x80º RE and +0.25 -1.5x100º LE. In 2008 we performed corneal cross-linking on both eyes. In 2018 she is now 36 years old and refraction was +0.75-3x70º RE and -1x100º LE with a BCVA 20/15 in both eyes. Corneal topography was stable for the last 10 years and we decided to correct the refraction in the RE with a phakic lens. We implanted an ICL VTICM5 of 12.6 mm and -1.25+3.5x160º of power.

Results:

One day after surgery UCVA was 20/15 without complications.

Conclusions:

Toric ICL is a predictable, reversible and safe option to correct refractive errors in stable keratoconus with good vision.
